Celebrating a Century!

The word newsletter is defined as a small publication (as in a leaflet or newspaper) containing news of interest chiefly to a special group. Today, that publication could be a monthly employee communication, a quarterly trade association communiqué or a family flyer sent only at Christmas. The newsletter emanating out of the offices of Eternal Mewar is in itself a unique enterprise. Part corporate news, part personality news, part charity news it traverses a wide spectrum even as it debuts every month.

Traditionally, the HRH Newsletter bore all the hallmarks of an easy information periodical, dedicated to its faithful customers. It carried snippets of jocular corporate news interspersed between articles dedicated to individual hotel properties. It carried short memos on the history of select heritage properties. It highlighted novelties and detailed amenities. In recent times however, the Newsletter has been through a dynamic change and this has been envisioned and spearheaded by Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar of Udaipur. A man of many parts, Shriji was able to picture the changing times well in advance. Jumping on to this wave of energy, the Newsletter was only one of the many vehicles of transformation to be put into practice under his guidance. HRH News thus grew into Eternal Mewar News and this came at the right time for, Eternal Mewar embodies the values and principles, traditions and heritage of the 1500-year-old House of Mewar. At its core is its enduring legacy of Custodianship; where the Maharanas of Mewar serve their state as the physical embodiment of the presiding deity, Shree Eklingnath ji. These Custodians of Mewar are distinguished by their ability to adapt to changing times whilst remaining relevant and contemporary, without compromising on the key principles of governance as outlined by their founding-fathers. While providing a vision for the 21st century, Eternal Mewar is thus the secret to the sustainability of the House of Mewar through the centuries. At another level, Eternal Mewar is a unique heritage brand exemplifying hospitality, cultural preservation, social welfare, education, sports and spirituality for each and every one of us. The Newsletter attempts to narrate all this in its monthly presentation as it navigates the landscape of historical anecdotes and present day activities, festivals and cultural happenings and museum related news. Udaipur itself is a hub of cultural and social goings-on. All the enterprises of Eternal Mewar are its epicentre and so much that goes on in and about the city is reflected in the stories of the Newsletter.

What makes the Newsletter a unique enterprise now and in the past is the rich melange of photographs that the publication carries. The Mewar Archives are state of the art. Photographs prints and lithographs, documents, parchments, and paintings, have all been digitised and preserved in appropriate conditions. Shriji oversaw the genesis of this department and it is a tribute to his attention and detailing. The result of such meticulous planning has led to the archives becoming a centre for high scholarship and research. The collateral advantages of such a centre are that the Newsletter benefits enormously.
