Girikumar, Art Conservation Consultant, Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur presented a paper at the 46th IASC National Conference on conservation of cultural property held at CSMVS Museum, MUMBAI from June 2-4, 2014 under the aegis of the Art Conservation Resurgence Project supported by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.

He presented the case study titled 'Long Exposure-The Camera in Udaipur - A technical review of the photographs collection of the Pictorial Archives of Maharanas of Mewar, Udaipur' of The City Palace Museum, Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur.

Paper Introduction: This paper is a technical review of the photographic collection of the Pictorial Archives of the Maharanas of Mewar belonging to the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur. Painstakingly documented over several years, they constitute one of the most significant collections of early photography in India today. Its importance lies in its range: the images are not only a record of the evolution of photographic technology as it was practiced at Udaipur, but also reflect the changing tastes of patrons and practitioners, and the society in which they lived and worked. The collection is critically analysed to understand technical aspects like processes & formats as well as the measures taken to ensure its long term preservation and presentation are dealt with in the following sections.
