Fellowship at The MET, New York

Ms. P.M. Vasundhara, Lead Conservator at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, was at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York for a period of six months, from March 2019 to August 2019 as part of the Andrew W Mellon Foundation fellowship, with support from the Ministry of Culture Govt. of India at The Sherman Fairchild Centre for Objects Conservation. Over her six months tenure, her primary focus at The MET was learning innovative methods and developing skills, with special interest in interpreting surfaces on polychrome wood and glass objects. Her conservation projects included objects from Ecuador, Egypt, ancient Greek and Rome, and Tiffany's collection.

Challenges to History in the Age of Digital Communication

Ms. Purva Bhatia, Executive - MMCF Outreach Programmes Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation presented her paper on 'Challenges to History in the Age of Digital Communication' on behalf of Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation at All India Media Conference (AIMC)-2019, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur from 27th September to 29th September 2019.

'Conservation Training in Metal Conservation' at CSMVS, Mumbai

Mr. Prashant Lohar, Museum Archives Executive and Conservation Technician, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur partook in a 'Conservation Training in Metal Conservation' at the Museum Art Conservation Centre, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai, from 16th - 30th September 2019. This training was organized by CSMVS under the 'Citi - CSMVS ConservArte Apprenticeship Program'.

Mr. Lohar, as part of this apprenticeship, learnt identification of different types of metal, examination and treatment of objects etc. The sessions involved use of new technological machinery currently trending in the conservation field. Lectures about XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence Technology), Laser, FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) and their use, mechanical cleaning, chemical cleaning, protection of the objects etc. were conducted. Hands-on training on art objects with use of the XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence Technology); used for analysis and the Laser; used for cleaning, was also provided.

This Apprenticeship Program forms a part of the ConservArte: Citi-CSMVS Art Conservation Project, Phase II in which Citi, India is partnering with CSMVS, Mumbai to conserve and restore 1,500 historically and artistically important works of the CSMVS' collection, as well as that of other institutions in India.
