Philanthropy Building on a Foundation of Knowledge and the Future of Girls' Education in Mewar The historical commitment of the Mewar royal family to girls' education continues to shape the present. Mr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Trustee MMCF exemplifies this legacy by supporting the complete tuition fees for all girls studying in the Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Jagdish Chowk, Udaipur for the current academic year (2023-2024) on 2nd November 2023. "Carrying forward the traditions of our ancestors," Mr. Mewar said, "we must make concerted efforts to strengthen girls' education and ensure universal access. Many girls yearn to learn, yet domestic or financial constraints force them to abandon their studies. I see my contribution as simply upholding the time-honored Mewar tradition of promoting knowledge." Mewar itself boasts the title of hosting the first girls' school in the region, the Shambhuratna Pathshala. Founded in January 1863 AD under the reign of Maharana Shambhu Singh (1861-1874), it became a dedicated girls' school in 1866, pioneering female education across Mewar and beyond. Today, under the management of the Rajasthan Education Department, it nurtures the dreams of roughly 300 girls from grades 9 to 12. The school commemorated its 150th anniversary in 2014. Further strengthening this historical bond, the Mewar family undertook the school's renovation under the aptly named 'Shiksha' project in Udaipur. Recognizing the school's significance and acknowledging the pleas of its authorities, Mr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, trustee of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, oversaw the refurbishment project that began in 2015.
