Academic Initiatives Unveiling South Asia's Mineral History: A Report on the International Conference at Mohanlal Sukhadia University The Department of History at Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU) in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, hosted a two-day international conference titled "Minerals, Mining, and Metallurgy in South Asia: Historical Perspectives" on January 11th and 12th, 2024. The event attracted over 100 participants from across India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Armenia and Bangladesh. Over 70 research papers were presented, delving into the rich history of mineral extraction and metalworking in South Asia. Dr. Hansmukh Seth, Associate Curator at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, played a key role in the conference. As a core subject advisor and presenter, Dr. Seth delivered a paper titled "Mines and Minerals in South Rajasthan." His presentation explored the wealth of archaeological evidence for mining practices in southern Rajasthan and highlighted how artifacts housed in the City Palace Museum offer valuable insights into the use of various metals throughout history.
