Celebrating 1,500 Years of Mewar: Fifth Edition of Maharana Unveiled at The City Palace On 22nd May 2026 The City Palace, Udaipur, became the setting for a landmark literary and cultural occasion with the launch of the fifth revised edition of Brian Masters' acclaimed work, Maharana: The Story of the Rulers of Udaipur. The prestigious volume was unveiled by Dr. Gulab Kothari, Editor-in-Chief of the Rajasthan Patrika Group, alongside Shriji Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation. Published under the guidance of Shriji, the latest edition chronicles the remarkable journey of 77 generations of the House of Mewar, capturing an unbroken legacy spanning over 1,500 years. More than a historical account, the book stands as a tribute to the enduring ideals of courage, self-respect, sacrifice and exemplary leadership that have defined one of the world's oldest surviving dynasties. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gulab Kothari described Mewar as the "land of self-respect and the mother of heroes", emphasizing that its history has always been defined by an unwavering refusal to surrender. He observed that icons such as Maharana Pratap, Bhaktimati Meera Bai continue to embody Rajasthan's identity across the world. Reflecting on India's historical narrative, he noted that the stories of Chetak's sacrifice at Haldighati, the patriotism of the Bhil warriors and the unparalleled generosity of Bhamashah are not merely episodes from Mewar's past, but enduring pillars of India's national consciousness. The launch also marked a significant moment of continuity. Fourteen years earlier, in 2012, Dr. Kothari had unveiled the third edition of Maharana alongside His late Highness Maharana Arvind Singh Mewar. The release of this expanded fifth edition reflects the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation's ongoing commitment to preserving, documenting and sharing Mewar's extraordinary legacy, ensuring that its timeless values continue to inspire scholars, citizens and future generations around the world. |
