French National Day Celebration

H.E. Thierry Mathou and Mrs Cécile Mathou with Shriji Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar

On 14th July 2026, the Embassy of France in India hosted its grand French National Day reception at The Zora - Delhi Convention Centre, located on Lodhi Road within the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium complex. Hosted by the Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Thierry Mathou, the prestigious evening was graced by Union Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman as the Chief Indian guest, alongside Shriji Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, who attended as an esteemed dignitary.

Centred around the theme of the "India-France Year of Innovation," the venue was brilliantly illuminated in the French tricolour of red, white and blue. Guests experienced a rich fusion of cultures, featuring performances by a French Brittany musical ensemble alongside traditional Persian percussions and giant, illuminated Rajasthani puppets, camels and elephants. The culinary experience was equally exceptional, offering an authentic spread of French cheeses and premium cold cuts paired with fine French wines, including Paul Jaboulet Aîné Parallele 45 Cotes du Rhône Rouge 2021 and Les Charmes Dompierre Medoc 2021.

This diplomatic engagement highlights a continuing collaboration between France and Mewar. Earlier on 7th June 2024, Ambassador Thierry Mathou and Shriji Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar jointly inaugurated a new French Language Center at the Maharana Mewar Public School in Udaipur. A joint initiative between the governments of France and India under the Alliance Française, the center offers diploma courses in the French language.
