“In the annals of the history of Indian vintage cars perhaps the most historic is a 1933 model Maybach Zeppelin made especially for the German dictator Hitler and presented to the Maharaja of Patiala”.
Letter from Mr. Ravi Jit Singh, New Delhi, India:
“The Maybach belonged to His Highness the late Maharaja of Patiala and Raj Pramukh and was solely used as his very special State-Car”.
The car was first registered on April 20th, 1951 when India title and registration law were created (India was formed as in independent nation in 1949). The car then carried the red license plate no.7 indicating this car was a state car. The cars certificate of registration for Patiala and East Punjab States Union shows the car was “Exempted” from tax from 1957 through 1967.
Letter from Roni Khan, Bombay, India:
“The car was given as a state gift to the Maharaja of Patiala by Adolf Hitler to encourage him to stay neutral and/or favour the German cause. The Maharaja graciously accepted the gift but still sided with the allies in later years. During the war the car was kept hidden and not used because of its history.
