Dr. Debra Diamond, Curator of South and Southeast Asian Art, Freer l Sackler Institution, Washington DC, U.S.A., visited the state of the art conservation lab at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur during her recent trip.

Holika Dahan Ceremony - 2018

Holika Dahan Ceremony was celebrated at The Manek Chowk, City Palace, Udaipur. Holika dahan is celebrated on the auspicious full moon night of Phalguna, heralding the onset of spring. The colourful procession with marching bands and display of Mewar's pageantry witnessed the participation of Family-Members of the House of Mewar. Including Shriji , Smt. Vijayraj Kumari Mewar, Mr.Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Mrs. Nivritti Kumari Mewar, Ms. Padmaja Kumari Parmar,Miss. Rohitta Kumari Parmar, Miss. Mohlakshika Kumari Mewar and Miss Chunanda Kumari Parmar. The spectacle of ceremonies, with religious rites conducted, culminated in the lighting of the pious fire of Holika Dahan. Music and dance performances by artistes made the evening memorable. This year the dance performance by Geetanjali Lal and Group, Kathak Exponent added to the spectacle.Guests from overseas and India, residents from Udaipur joined to witness the festival that is performed according to the ancient traditions of Rajasthan and India. The festival is a testimony to the living heritage of Mewar.
