Training Programme for Museum Security

Similar to the training sessions held in May 2019 for the Museum attendants, sessions were organized for the Museum security personnel on 21st June and 28th June 2019. The sessions were held in the Maharana of Mewar Public School auditorium. Ms Anuja Mukherjee and Ms Bhasha Shah, Art Conservators, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, conducted the programme with the emphasis being on highlighting the value of art objects housed within the Museum. One of the important issues discussed was of human vandalism within Museum premises; why it is unacceptable and what measures can be taken to avoid it. The participants were additionally

introduced to various types of materials that art objects are made up of, with examples of emergency situations wherein they would be required to prioritise the rescue based on the sensitivity of the artworks. An interactive session enabled the participants to share their experiences, ideate and make suggestions. The goal of the programme was to make the participants feel that they are equal stakeholders in protecting the cultural heritage.

ICON-Getty Training Programme in the United Kingdom

Ms. Anuja Mukherjee, Art Conservator, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur was one amongst 12 Getty Foundation delegates, selected from all over the world to attend the Continuing Professional Development Training Programme organised by the Institute of Conservation (ICON), U.K. and Getty Foundation, U.S. As a part of the programme, she travelled to London and Belfast, U.K. from 9th June 2019 till 16th June 2019.

During the programme, she visited private conservation studios of renowned painting and textile conservators, and Museums including the British Museum and National Archives in London. A tour to the private conservation studios provided an insight into various challenges faced by private conservators, and how they deal with their clients. They were an excellent example of space optimization; how within a limited space a laboratory, research unit and an archive or storage can be set up without compromising with the standards of conservation. Ms. Mukherjee learnt about many cost effective materials with sustainable solutions, one which can be implemented in our Museum as well. During her visit to the British Museum and National Archives, U.K. she furthered her knowledge about equipments such as
