Film Heritage Foundation at the 5th Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop India 2019

Ms. Bhasha Shah, Conservator, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur participated in the 5th Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop India 2019 as a Film Heritage Foundation Scholar. The workshop, held at the Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad, from 8th to 15th December, 2019, was an initiative of Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) and International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF).

The seven day course attended by Ms. Shah covered both theory and group practical sessions on every possible aspect of preservation and restoration of film and non-film material; such as preservation of celluloid, digital preservation and data management, cataloguing, archive management and exhibition, photo and paper conservation, amongst others. The course boasted of an exemplary array of faculty including Dr. Ray Edmondson, one of the foremost Film archivists of the world; Dr. Nora Kennedy, head of Photograph Conservation Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Mr. David Walsh, Training and Outreach Coordinator, FIAF, to name a few. Daily screenings of restored world cinema gave the participants an opportunity to see the results of well executed film preservation projects.

Visit of Students from Nagpur Architecture College

A group of 60 students from Nagpur Architecture College visited the City Palace Museum, Udaipur on 14th December 2019. They were on a full day heritage tour where they were briefed by Mr. Bhupendra Singh Auwa, Administrator in Chief, Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation about the restoration work going on in the Palace with all the traditional materials used including water uplift from Pichola Lake & drainage system, and electrical systems. Later, on students did the sketching of the museum.
