Workshop : Access and Inclusion in South and Southeast Asian Museums

ICOM defines a 'museum' as "a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education, study and enjoyment". The concepts of 'Access' and 'Inclusion' fit into all most every aspect of this very definition, with words such as 'society', 'public', 'communication', etc. that resonate with it.

Ms. Chelsea Santos, Assistant Curator at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, participated in the week-long workshop at Jodhpur from 28th - 30th November 2019 and a postworkshop tour from 1st - 3rd December 2019 of several sites, Institutes and Museums in Nagaur and Bikaner. The workshop and tour, that looked at 'Access and Inclusion in South and Southeast Asian Museums', was jointly organised by the Commonwealth Association of Museums (CAM), ICOM ICTOP (International Committee for Training of Personnel) and ICOM India, in collaboration with Mehrangarh Museum Trust, Jodhpur and Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, Jaipur.
