Talking Museums II: Preparing for a Post COVID World

In an attempt to build a collective platform for Museums and professionals to come together, exchange ideas and build collaborations, the Bangalore based, ReReeti Foundation, organized a series of focus group discussions with Museum professionals from across India. The theme for its Talking Museums II has been the impact and way forward for the COVID crisis. On 9th October 2020, it held another of its sessions. The panel included Dr. Suruchika Chawla, Department of Archaeology and Museums, Haryana, Mr. Umesh Kumar Rustagi, Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai, Ms. Manjulika Vaz, Maj. General S.L. Bhatia Museum of the History of Medicine, St John's Medical College, Bangalore, Ms. Chelsea Santos, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, Commodore O. Johnson, and Ms. Ashwini Nawathe, Maritime Museum (MHS, India), and Ms. Tejshvi Jain and Ms. Akanksha Maglani, ReReeti.

Ghar Se Museum, The ArtX Company

The City Palace Museum, Udaipur is set to take part in the second round of Ghar Se Museum, an initiative of The ArtX Company that seeks to get Museums from across India on one platform and engage with its digital audiences. Ms. Chelsea Santos, Assistant Curator, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur was a part of this introductory session that looked at the various formats and areas of collaboration. This session was held on 22nd October 2020, and had nearly 17 representatives from several Indian Museums as participants such as Maritime Museum (Mumbai), NGMA (Bengal), Art Walks (Mumbai), MAP (Bangalore), DAG Museums (Delhi-Kolkata), ReReeti (Bangalore), and others.

Association with Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun

The City Palace Museum, Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur joined in association with Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, for its M.Sc. in Heritage Conservation and Management, as part of its new module 'Heritage Museums and Cultural Anthropology.' Members of the Museum team shared their field related expertise across a series of lectures, spanning across 6th October to 3rd November 2020. The modules included Museum Planning and Design, Collections Management, Collections Conservation, Museum Management and Outreach, and Museum Curation, with respective case studies and walkthroughs. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Shikha Jain, Dr. Alka Pande, Dr. Mayank Gupta, Dr. Hansmukh Seth, Mr. Ankit Mehta, Mr. Chayan Doshi, Ms. Anuja Mukherjee, Ms. Bhasha Shah, Ms. P.M. Vasundhara, Mr. Prashant Lohar, and Ms. Chelsea Santos.

Collaboration with The Heritage
Lab-Museum Jigsaw

The Museum collaborated with The Heritage Lab to bring out an object-based digital Jigsaw. The Jigsaw features a detail of the painting of Maharana Sangram Singh at the Gangaur Boat Procession, from the Museum's collection, and is a fun way of engaging audiences and acquainting them with the objects.

The Royal Palette: A Colour Based Guide

The City Palace Museum, Udaipur is composed of several royal apartments, interconnected by narrow passages and courtyards. Each of these rooms are exquisitely designed and distinct from one another. Striking shades of colours fill these unique spaces. Virtual audiences can now use this colour guide to lead and acquaint themselves to the Museum, and explore a rather bold Royal Palette!
