Participants were virtually toured around Museums in China, and briefed about various technical aspects in their practice, as part of this virtual gathering.


Integrated Approaches to Conservation at the 19th ICOM-CC Triennial Conference

Dr. Vandana Singh, Senior Conservator, Centre for Art Conservation and Research Experts, New Delhi, India presented a case study on The synergy of craft, conservation, and cutting-edge technology: Conservation of arms and armour at the City Palace Museum, Udaipur, India, at the ICOM-CC Beijing International Conference 2021, on 17th May 2021. The paper was co-authored by Dr. Hansmukh Seth, Associate Curator.

Onsite inspections during the state-wide lockdown

As routine practice, inspections of the Museum were carried out by a team of professionals including Ms. Anuja Mukherjee, Ms. Bhasha Shah, Mr. Chittaranjan Sukhwal, Dr. Hansmukh Seth, Mr. Pranjay Singh Sisodia, Mr. Prashant Lohar, Mr. Ronak Rathore, Mr. Rahul Shukla, Ms. Srabani Gayen, and Mr. Tarun Sukhwal, during the lockdown, on 1st May 2021 and 20th May 2021. The inspection on 20th May was carried out post the occurrence of Cyclone Tauktae. The team looked at conservation and maintenance issues with regards the heritage structure and the collection. Checklists of the issues and detailed reports were created, and necessary interventions followed suit.

Museum Week 2021

The City Palace Museum, Udaipur participated in the eighth edition of the Museum Week, the theme of which revolved around creativity. Museum Week is organized by Culture For Causes Network, a non-profit organization that promotes museums, libraries, galleries, archives, artists and all cultural institutions around the world by the organization of events on social media and sometimes in the physical space. The official partners for this event were UNESCO, Art Explora, Talkwalker, CloudGuide and Projeto Portinari. The event looked at seven themes and related hash tags over the course of seven days, i.e. 7 June 2021 -13 June 2021.

The themes and hash tags used by Museums and institutions worldwide, on those days included

The Museum successfully used this event to connect with and engage its audience, and talk about its collections in a new fashion, via social media. As per Talkwalker's statistics, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur moved up in ranking from the previous year to hold the 2nd place in audience engagement pan India.

e-Symposium on Intangible Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Management of Historic Towns in South Asia: Theory to Practice

Dr. Shikha Jain, Director, Dronah Foundation, Consultant M.M.C.F, presented at the e-Symposium on Intangible Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Management of Historic Towns in South Asia: Theory to Practice, organized by ICOMOS, India, on 27th June 2021. The speakers at the symposium looked at holistic approaches to conservation and safeguarding of the tangible and intangible heritage, and how they could be put into practice. Dr. Jain's presentation covered Udaipur and Jaipur, with The City Palace Museum, Udaipur cited as an example of a Living Heritage Museum.
