An Online Interactive Session on the Conservation of Jain Scrolls

An online interactive session was held on May 31, 2023, to discuss the conservation of Jain scrolls. The session was attended by Dr. Dipti Khera, Associate Professor of Art History and Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, cocurator of the exhibition A Splendid Land - Paintings from Royal Udaipur; Ms. Lisa Conte, Associate Professor of Paper Conservation at the Institute of Fine Arts; Ms. Emma Hartman, a paper conservation student; and Ms. Anuja Mukherjee and Ms. Bhasha Shah, conservators at the City Palace Museum in Udaipur.

The session focused on a Jain invitation scroll, Vijnaptipatra, dating to 1795. The scroll was discussed in detail, and the participants shared their knowledge of the scroll's history, materials, techniques, and pigments. They also analyzed the differences between the preparation of Mewar court paintings and scrolls.

The session was a valuable opportunity for the participants to share their expertise and learn from each other. It also helped to build relationships between the two organizations, and there is a keen interest in collaborating on future conservation research on Jain scrolls.

Annual Guide Orientation Lecture Series

In an annual guide orientation program organized by the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur, On the 04th May, 2023 Ms. Swati Jain gave a presentation on the religious development of Udaipur in the last 400 years. Ms. Jain began by discussing the oldest religious site in Mewar, Narayan Vatika in Nagari near Chittor.

She then traced the expansion of Bhagwat religion from Mathura to Vidisha via Nagari, providing detailed information based on old records.

She also discussed the construction of old temples in Ahar, a city that was settled before Udaipur. Using inscriptions and archaeological evidence, Ms. Jain presented a comprehensive overview of the temples built by Maharanas and Maharanis after Udaipur became the capital.

At the end of the lecture, Mr. Bhupendra Singh Auwa, Administrator in Chief of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, thanked Ms. Jain and gifted her books and other memorabilia of Mewar on behalf of the foundation.

Dr. Rajshree Gandhi Verma enlightens guides on consumer awareness on the 09th May, 2023.

At the orientation program organized by the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur, Dr. Rajshree Gandhi Verma, a retired bank officer from Udaipur, gave a presentation on consumer awareness. Dr. Gandhi began by discussing the importance of being a conscious consumer. She highlighted the need to be aware of one's rights as a consumer and to be able to spot potential scams. She then discussed specific areas where consumers are often taken advantage of, such as banking services, medical services, and educational institutions. She provided tips on how to protect oneself in these situations. The lecture was wellreceived by the guides, who appreciated the opportunity to learn more about consumer rights and how to protect themselves. At the end of the lecture, Mr. Bhupendra Singh Auwa, Administrative in Chief of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, thanked Dr. Gandhi and gifted her books and other memorabilia of Mewar on behalf of the foundation.
