Engaging Young Minds through Cartography at Maharaja Fatesingh Museum, Vadodara and Maharana Mewar Public School, Udaipur On July 15, 2024, the Maharaja Fatesingh Museum Trust in Vadodara, in collaboration with the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur, hosted an educational event for the exhibition "Picturing Place: Painted Maps at the Udaipur Court" at the Maharaja Fatesingh Museum, Vadodara. The event, facilitated by Ms. Geetika Kumar, Mr. Mudit Charles John, and Ms. Madalyn Faith Mejia, aimed to engage students from the 9th to 12th grades, attracting approximately 130 participants. The educational activities included three interactive sessions: 'Mastering Maps: A Puzzle Challenge,' 'Connect the Dots!,' and 'The Craft of Cartography.' Each session, lasting 40 to 50 minutes, commenced with a guided gallery tour featuring maps, paintings, and photographs. To enhance their understanding of cartography, students received brochures explaining how to read maps. Following the gallery tour, students participated in their chosen activities. In the first activity, teams tackled puzzles and answered map-related questions, which not only improved their map-reading skills but also fostered teamwork and problem-solving abilities. The second activity involved students creating their own maps, encouraging creative exploration and highlighting the significance of perspective in cartography. |
The event was honored by the presence of Rajamata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad, who toured the gallery.
