51st IASC Conference Hosted by MMCF

The 51st national conference of Indian Association for Study of Conservation of Cultural Property (IASC) was organized in collaboration with Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF) at Khush Mahal in The City Palace Museum on 14th and 15th September 2024. More than 100 delegates from all across the country attended the conference on the topic 'Conservation, Technology and Scientific study of Ancient and Historic Metals'. The Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony was Mr. Kuldeep Singh Solanki, mine geologist and director of exploration at Hindustan Zinc Ltd. with more than 32 years of experience, along with other dignitaries from IASC and MMCF. Prof. Vasilike Argyropoulos from University of West Attica, Athens and Director of CULTLAB delivered the keynote address on '30 years of research in metals conservation of cultural heritage – Past, Current and Future trends'. The MMCF conservators, Ms. Anuja Mukherjee and Ms. Bhasha Shah not only coordinated with the IASC team to host the conference at the museum but as a start to the conference, they also represented MMCF by showcasing a film about its efforts and initiatives in the field of conservation.

Scientific papers on metal mining and metal crafts along with cases studies on numismatics and conservation of metal artefacts were presented by professionals from various government and private institutions. The conservation approach was a mix of traditional as well as scientific which made the presentations even more interesting. A number of vendors dealing in conservation materials and equipments set up their stalls gave presentations and interacted with the participants. The efforts of the host institution MMCF and its team were much appreciated.
