Udaipur Foundation Day Seminar: Celebrating Heritage and Progress

On the occasion of Udaipur Foundation Day on 30th April 2025, the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur, organized a one-day seminar to commemorate this landmark event. The seminar provided a dynamic platform where eminent historians, scholars, and domain experts reflected on Udaipur's journey from its princely roots to its modern identity. The discussions encompassed Udaipur's rich history, environment, living heritage, the geological structure and mineral wealth of the Aravalli Range, as well as the city's evolving landscape of education, health, culture, and transportation. Renowned historians Dr. J.K. Ojha, Dr. Rajendranath Purohit, and Dr. Shri Krishna Jugnu shared engaging anecdotes and personal memories, shedding new light on Udaipur's vibrant past. Former Chief City Planner of Rajasthan, Dr. Satish Shrimali, offered valuable insights into the city's ancient urban planning and unique architectural features. Dr. Manish Shrimali from Sukhadia University chronicled the development of education in Udaipur, charting its evolution from the traditional systems of monasteries and ashrams to the establishment of universities.

Dr. Devendra Goyal spoke about the increasing challenge of vector-borne diseases, highlighting the link between these health risks and changing environmental conditions in the city. Dr. Harish Kapasiya explored the exceptional geo- heritage and diversity of Mewar's landscape. Dr. Srishti Raj Singh presented an overview of heritage conservation initiatives, particularly those undertaken within the Smart City Project. Additionally, Dr. Rekha Purohit discussed the significance and artistry of traditional Rajasthani women's jewelry, while Ms. Anuradha Srivastava offered valuable historical insights into the foundation of Udaipur. Representing the Foundation, Research Officer Dr. Swati Jain welcomed attendees and presented a fascinating display of ancient maps of Udaipur. Ms. Geetika Kumar, Ms. Vatsala, and Ms. Priyanka Seth enriched the seminar by sharing perspectives on the galleries of the City Palace Museum and the Foundation's ongoing efforts to preserve and

promote the living heritage of Mewar. The seminar underscored the collective commitment to honoring Udaipur's glorious past, understanding its present challenges, and shaping a vibrant,sustainable future for the city and its citizens.
