From Nature to Art: A Sensory Workshop

On 21st February 2026, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur organised 'An Introduction to Natural Pigments and Paper used in Mewar Paintings: A Sensory Workshop in collaboration with ReReeti under the IMACC (Indian Museums Against Climate Change) project. Designed for visually impaired children aged 13 years and above, the workshop introduced participants to the traditional materials used in Mewar painting through a multisensory experience centred on touch, sound, and smell.

The session focused on natural pigments derived from minerals and ochres, as well as handmade paper prepared from recycled materials such as jute fibres, newspapers, and flower petals. The aim of the workshop was to promote awareness of sustainable artistic practices while making traditional knowledge more accessible through sensory based learning.

The activity benefited participants by offering an inclusive and creative way to experience art beyond visual limitations, while the learning outcome lay in helping them understand the materials, preparation processes, and artistic techniques associated with Mewar painting

It also demonstrated how museum education can be made more meaningful, accessible, and environmentally conscious

A group of students from FLAME University, Pune, accompanied by Dr. Jitendra Shastri, called on Shriji Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar at The City Palace, Udaipur on 27 February 2026. The group enjoyed an engaging interaction with Shriji on various topics.
