On 28th May 2026, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur celebrated the rich artistic heritage of Rajasthan through an immersive, hands-on workshop on "Mandana: Folk Art of Mewar." The initiative reaffirmed the Museum's commitment to safeguarding and promoting India's living cultural traditions. The workshop was led by Ms. Dimple Chandat, recipient of the prestigious Rana Punja Award and brought together women from the Kotda Adivasi Sansthan for an enriching experience in one of Mewar's oldest indigenous art forms. Practised for generations by women across rural Rajasthan and Gujarat, Mandana is a traditional tribal and folk art distinguished by its intricate motifs, created to adorn the walls and floors of homes during festivals, rituals and other auspicious occasions. More than decorative expressions, these artworks embody stories of faith, prosperity, nature and community. Through initiatives such as this, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur continues to provide a vibrant platform for traditional knowledge bearers, ensuring that the artistic legacy of Mandana is not only preserved but also appreciated, practised and passed on to future generations. |
