Opening of 'Mewar Photographs, 1857-1947: A Glimpse Into The Archive'

The Photograph Exhibition titled 'Mewar Photographs, 1857-1947: A Glimpse Into The Archive', was opened to its visitors on 18th October 2018. The visitors to The City Palace Museum, Udaipur can now treat themselves to rare, vintage photographs of yesteryear Mewar. The exhibition will be on display till 31st March 2019.

The exhibition brings together a selection of photographs from the collection, many of which have never been displayed in public. Arranged chronologically, they showcase the ever greater access granted to the camera in chronicling the lives and times of the Maharanas. The men behind these photographs were the best of their times; Herzog & Higgins, Johnston & Hoffmann, K.L. Syed, to name a few. They envisioned and captured a royal Mewar with its

grand courts, elaborate weddings and processions that brought the community together. The star of the exhibition, a vintage camera, is also on display. For a more personal touch , the exhibition is accompanied by an album and video from the wedding of Maharana Bhagwat Singh of Mewar, the then crown prince, with Maharaj Kunwarani Sushila Kumari of Bikaner.
