Chitrankan: A Mewar Painting Workshop

A Mewar Painting Workshop
conducted on 14th - 19th and
25th February 2022, provided
participants with a hands-on
exposure to the Mewar
School of Painting, traditional
tools and equipment, while
enabling them to create their
own miniature versions.
The workshop, facilitated by
Curatorial Intern, Mr. Sourabh
Sharma, was conducted at
Bhagwat Prakash, in the
painting gallery, and was
organized in conjunction with
the exhibition 'Portraits, Kings,
Landscape: The Practice of
Painting at Udaipur' that
celebrates the role and skill of
Udaipur's artists (Chitaras).
Participants were provided
with necessary art supplies,
and were encouraged to
explore their senses, in
creating and engaging with
their art and those on display.
In addition to the day-long
workshop, demonstrations of
traditional colour preparation,
was conducted at Chowmukha, Lakshmi Chowk, Zenana
Mahal.

Documentation of wooden furniture
The City Palace Museum, Udaipur has a spectacular
collection of 80+ vintage wooden furniture including chairs,
tables, loungers, stools, cots, etc. that have been recently
documented. These pieces date to the 19-20th Century,
some of which are exquisitely carved, or have polychrome
work on their surface.
