Maharana Karan Singh's 440th Birth Anniversary Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation celebrated the 440th birth anniversary of Maharana Karan Singh, the 56th Shri Ekling Diwan of Mewar, on August 28th, 2023. Kunwar Karan Singh was born on Shravan Shukla Dwadashi Vikram Samvat 1640. A ceremony was held at the City Palace Museum, where garlands and prayers were offered to Karan Singh's portrait. Historical information about him, including pictures, was also displayed for the tourists visiting the museum. Kunwar Karan Singh was the eldest son of Maharana Amar Singh I and his mother's name was Saheb Kunwar. He succeeded his father as Maharana in 1620 CE, but had already begun exercising administrative powers during his father's reign. He fought many battles alongside his father, but was also concerned about the plight of Mewar. During his reign, he established diplomatic relations with the Mughals, which helped to bring peace to the region. He also worked to reform the administration, judiciary, and economy of Mewar. One of Karan Singh's most notable achievements was giving shelter to Prince Khurram (later Shah Jahan) in Udaipur when he rebelled against his father Jahangir in 1622 CE. Karan Singh welcomed Khurram hospitably and they exchanged turbans as a gesture of goodwill. Khurram stayed in Mewar for about four months before returning to the Deccan. Karan Singh also played a key role in the renovation of the Ranakpur Jain temples, which had been destroyed by the Mughal general Ghazni Khan. The temples were restored according to the plans of the Jain monk Vijaydev Suri. |
