Anniversary Celebration of Maharanas

The Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, dedicated to preserving and promoting Mewar's rich heritage, brings history to life through its annual celebrations of Maharana birth anniversaries. The museum commemorated the legacies of three esteemed rulers in the month of March and April:

Maharana Bhupal Singh, 140th birth anniversary on 6th March 2024

Maharana Bhupal Singh was born in 1940, on Falgun Krishna Ekadashi (year 1884). In the Rai Angan of City Palace Museum, garlands were offered to his portrait, lamps were lit along with chanting of mantras and historical information about him was displayed for the visiting tourists.

The accession to the throne of Maharana Bhupal Singh took place on Vikram Samvat 1987, Jyeshtha Vadi 12 (AD 1930 dated 25 May). As soon as he ascended the throne, Maharana waived off the debts of his subjects and jagirdars. Maharana was a great well-wisher of the people, he was always ready for the progress and welfare of the people. He got many works related to public welfare done.

A fund called 'Agriculture Reforms' was opened to provide loans to farmers at low interest rates. For progress in farming, he established an agricultural farm in Udaipur and built a market named 'Bhupalganj' in Bhilwara, the main center of trade in Mewar.

To increase employment and income in the state, factories were opened in Badisadri and Chittor and the common people were also allowed to open such factories, due to which factories started opening in Jahazpur, Asind, Sanwad, Kankroli etc. Municipality was established for the cleanliness of the city. The system of electric lighting started in the city. Many dispensaries were opened for the treatment of the sick. Intermediate College was opened in Udaipur for students to pursue higher education after high school. Not only this, at the time of the country's independence, many kings and emperors wanted to merge their princely states with Pakistan, but Maharana Bhupal Singh ji further increased the honor of his ancestors by announcing the merger of the princely state of Mewar with the Indian Union. As a result, even the rulers who were considering merger with Pakistan were ultimately forced to stay with India.

Maharana Bhim Singh, 256th birth anniversary on April 1st, 2024

After the demise of Maharana Hamir Singh II, his son Maharana Bhim Singh ascended the throne (1778 - 1828 CE).

During the tenure of Maharana, Bhim Vilas, Bhim Niwas, Parvati Vilas, Himmat Vilas and Madan Vilas were constructed in the palace of Udaipur. Apart from this, Govardhan Nath Ji Temple and Ram Narayan Temple in Udaipur and Ghasiar were constructed during his reign.

The Maharana also issued a silver coin 'Chandorish' in the name of his sister Chandra Kunwar Bai. His queen Padmakuwari built a Shiva temple named 'Bhima Parmeshwara' on the western bank of Pichola in her and her husband's name. After ruling for 50 years, Maharana Bhim Singh passed away on 30th March 1828.

Maharana's personality was soft-spoken, cheerful, kind, gentle, popular, humble, forgiving and extremely liberal. Colonel Todd said that he was a very good advisor, intelligent and decisive. Maharana was a patron of poets and scholars and also had good knowledge of history.
