Molela Terracotta: Craft, Community, and Continuity

In July 2025, the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation released a documentary titled "Terracotta Art of Molela" on its YouTube channel, as part of the ongoing project "Through the Voices of Udaipur." The film spotlights Molela, a village in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district, celebrated as the home of a living terracotta tradition. As part of this initiative, our curatorial team visited the village to engage with the community and closely observe the craft. The team documented an in-depth demonstration of the entire plaque-making process-an ancient practice sustained for generations by the Kumhar community. Master craftsman Mr. Jamna Lal graciously opened his studio, offering insight into the artistry and devotion behind his work. His terracotta plaques, adorned with depictions of deities, mythological narratives, and intricate decorative motifs, reflect a heritage that is at once artistic and devotional. Moulded from the local earth and often fired with spiritual intent, these creations stand as enduring expressions of faith and continuity, resonating with the cultural spirit of Molela.

On July 06, 2025, Dr. Alka Pandey, Art Historian, Consultant Author on Indian Aesthetics, and Consulting Curator of the Sculpture Gallery at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, held a meeting with Shriji Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar at The City Palace, Udaipur. The meeting underscored ongoing efforts in preserving and promoting the rich artistic heritage of Mewar through scholarly research and curation.

Latin American Content Creators Visit The City Palace Museum

On August 13, 2025 a vibrant team of content creators from various Latin American countries arrived in Udaipur to explore and showcase the rich heritage of Rajasthan. Invited by the state government's initiative to promote Rajasthan's historical and tourist sites globally, the delegation included creators and coordinators from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica.
