Echoes of Mewar: Weekly Musical Performances at Baadi Mahal

The Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF) continues its mission of preserving and promoting the rich cultural traditions of Mewar through weekly musical performances at Baadi Mahal, The City Palace Museum, Udaipur. These sessions, open to all tourists, feature resident artists presenting the beauty of traditional Indian instruments such as the santoor, flute, jal tarang, violin, sitar, and sarangi. In July and August 2025, performances included a santoor recital by Mr. Pradeep Kumar Tanwar (July 05), a jal tarang recital by Mr. Nandlal Gandharv (July 12), a flute recital by Mr. Dharesh Pandya (July 19), a violin recital by Ms. Kanishka Verma (July 26), sitar recitals by Dr. Dimple Sindhal (August 02) and Mr. Om Prakash (August 23), and a sarangi recital by Mr. Vijay Kumar Dhandra (August 30). Held every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, these performances offer visitors a rare opportunity to experience the living musical heritage of Mewar in a historic setting.

Anniversary Celebrations of Maharanas

The Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF), in keeping with its mission to preserve and propagate the illustrious heritage of Mewar, marked the birth anniversaries of five revered Maharanas during July and August 2025. These annual commemorations celebrate not only the memory of these great rulers but also the enduring values and traditions they upheld.

Through a series of special events, ceremonies, and educational programs, the Foundation paid tribute to their remarkable lives and contributions while fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural achievements that have shaped Mewar's identity. By honoring the legacies of these Maharanas, MMCF continues to inspire present and future generations to remain connected with the region's glorious history and heritage.

Maharana Sajjan Singh (r. 1874-1884 CE)

The Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation commemorated the 166th birth anniversary of Maharana Sajjan Singh on July 4, 2025. Born in 1859 and adopted by Maharana Shambhu Singh, he ascended the throne of Mewar as a minor in 1874.

Maharana Sajjan Singh is remembered as a visionary ruler who introduced significant administrative, judicial, and revenue reforms. He established the Mewar Police, modernized the court system, curbed corruption, and initiated land reforms, while decentralizing governance through new departments such as Mahendraraj Sabha and Mahekmakhas.
